Habitat for Humanity–Clinton County has lost another dear friend and faithful volunteer. Don Derrick passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Barbara, and is survived by his children: Jennifer (Shane) Dobbs, Kimball (Leslie) Derrick, and Cynthia Wengert.
Born in Dayton, Kentucky, Don grew up in Blue Ash, Ohio, and studied architecture at the University of Illinois. After 25 years with GE in facilities management, he moved his family to Blanchester in 1961. There, he remodeled their home and operated a 3,500-tree apple orchard, teaching his children the value of hard work and shared purpose. He later partnered with his son to build KD & Steel Custom Cabinetry and eventually designed and built the dream home he and Barbara filled with beautiful custom details.
Don was deeply committed to his community. He was active in the Boy Scouts and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Blanchester and later Clarksville United Methodist Church. He and Barbara also opened their home to international guests and exchange students.
Don generously shared his time and architectural expertise with Habitat for Humanity–Clinton County, helping build more than 40 homes. Even when he could no longer actively construct, he stayed connected—visiting job sites and attending special celebrations, including the dedication of Habitat’s 50th home during the affiliate’s 30th year. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kindness, and servant’s heart.
